A31: Does ability to drive 1600x1200 via DVI depend on...

#1 Post by tbessie » Tue Apr 18, 2006 1:53 pm

... the docking station used, or the specific model of the A31 series? I'd heard that the A31p can drive DVI at that resolution, and I tried it on my A31, but got a lot of weird flickering happening on colored images, which I tried via a Port Replicator II. I just ordered a Dock II (I want the ability to use the add-on PCI card), and wonder if it can drive that resolution via DVI, or if it's only a factor of the computer, not the Dock.

Anyone know?

I believe it's by using the omega drivers for ATi

Hey a31pguy -- what do you mean? *what* is by using those drivers? I'm using the regular ATI drivers, modded using Patje's Mobility Modding tool.

As I said, I can definitely get that resolution, but it's flickery; I've read elsewhere (the ThinkWiki, I think) that any given DVI hardware's ability to support a given resolution has a lot to do with the power and quality of the hardware involved.

Thus, my question -- which is the limiting factor in these thinkpads -- the dock, or the thinkpad's ATI card?

The site might have archived the other thread - not sure. Don't know about Patje's modding tool - never tried it. But it's the driver not the dock or the card.

You can get to the other thread with

(looks like they've added "/wiki/")

Thanks to all; this is helping me and my previous question.

It's too bad Lenovo tech support doesn't know anything about this (it even whent to a higher level), but their sales people do!
