New R40 owner with nooby Memory questions....

#1 Post by jonny wong » Sat Apr 22, 2006 9:08 pm

Hello, I've been lurking around in this forum for awhile. I have few newbie questions. Please dont hate me!
1. Is it best to upgrade my memory to 2G(1Gx2)?
2. I currently have 1@512M in slot1 and 1@256M in slot2. Is there a particular order these cards should go in order to maximize the speed?
3. Is it better of just have 2X256M. Will this option run smoother?
Thanx a million.
Jon.

Hi Jonny, welcome to the forum!!

With the latest BIOS update, you can actually hold 2GB ram in your R40. Any combination that you choose should be fine. I don't think that 2GB is really necessary unless you do A LOT of number crunching or even gaming on your R40. 1GB should be fine.

Infact, if you are are interested in picking up the ram pretty cheap, there is a forum member that is always selling the ram that fits the R40. Just search the forum users for brentpresley you will see his posts, including his For Sale items.
