New z60t owner looking for advice about sleeves and cases

#1 Post by ninepoundhammer » Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:03 pm

Hi - I just got my first thinkpad, a z60t. I'm really happy with it and I would like to protect it with a good sleeve and case. I saw the cases that are listed on the Lenovo website and they are a little too "clunky" for what I want.

So, I have two questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a good basic "minimalist" sleeve case that I could keep my z60t in?

2) Can anyone recommend a nice *lightweight* shoulder bag that would carry a z60t, powerpack, and maybe one extra book, but isn't too heavy to cancel out my 4.1 pounds travel weight?

I have a victorinox bag right now - I love the quality but it weighs more than my Thinkpad!

Thanks for any advice for this brand new z60t owner.

If you want really minimalist....I think you should look for something that is cloth based....something you'd find at a flea market. You can modify it with some padding to make it safer. Currently I have the organizer Lenovo case....and while it is well designed, it is just way too heavy for me to use.

I ordered a sleeve for my z60t from http://www.sfbags.com and couldn't be happier. It wasn't cheap, but it was exactly what I was looking for, and hadn't been able to find anywhere else. They make them to fit every machine precisely, and are nicely padded to protect the computer, yet are still slim enough to slip easily into a small bag. You can choose between a number of options, and the customer service was top notch. I see that they offer a number of other types of bags which may suit your 2nd question as well. :D

I've also used Waterfield sleeves and the quality is top notch..
A little pricy when you work everything out... but well worth it..

Thanks for the advice. I probably will go with something from SF bags. They seem to be the only company out there who make bags to fit a Z60T right.

I got a "BOOQ" sleeve messenger bag a while ago.. Pretty good if you just carry the laptop. the charger can be squeezed in the front pocket but will look a bit bulky.

I have a WaterField and it fits perfectly. If you are going to keep your computer for awhile, it more than pays for itself. The amount of protection is worth the cost of the sleeve.
