z60m - LCD cover

#1 Post by Andrew2T » Thu Apr 27, 2006 11:48 am

Is it possible to replace the LCD cover? That is the black cover that has the IBM letters and large sticker. (I think its called LCD rear cover?). And how difficult is it to replace one?

Yes, it is possible to replace it. Here is the Hardware Maintenance Manual that will show you the part numbers, as well as how to remove and replace the part.

Thanks! I just looked into this, and the terminology is a bit confusing for me, I guess what I need is "LCD cover kit (black)" . Can someone confirm this please?

You might want to give these Bill Morrow or these guys a call and see if the IBM sticker comes with the kit.

was looking into this myself after a friend offerd to paint my horrible titanium lid

word for the wise, DONT CHANGE IT.

it seems you ned to take apart the whole thing (screen) in order to replace the back, its like taking off many parts till you strip it and only then you have to re assembly the screen, look at the manual and RETHINK.

Thanks for the warning, I was actually going to replace it one of these days, now I am not sure. Could somebody confirm that chaning the cover is really that involved?
Are there any alternatives, say if I take to an IBM repair center , will they do it for me?

Why do you want to replace it?

The advantage of the Titanium is that it adds rigidity to the display, very beneficial.
