simple question:can a21m run with ONLY AC power, no battery?

If you take the main battery out of your A21M, can you run it with just the AC power cord?

OK, here's the less simple context for this question, if anyone has any suggestions.

My original problem was that the battery stopped recharging with AC power connected - it just ran down until it was completely drained (and it is now). After perusing this board and buying a new CMOS battery which did not fix the problem, I guessed that the problem was that the power chips on my mobo were fried. So it was time to get a new mobo.

I just bought one on ebay, took two hours to install it, and unfortunately it shows the exact same symptoms.

Neither of these mobos will start up with AC power attached and no main battery attached. Nor will they recharge or start with the battery and AC power. So if a normal A21M should do so, I can infer that the new mobo is fried TOO and return it.

So I would be grateful if any of you A21M owners out there could check for me.

normally, all thinkpads can run while connected to AC and without the battery..

i routinely remove the main battery while running and connected to AC power..

on all thinkpads from 755CD through T60p, including more than one A series..
i.e. A20p, A21p and whatever came after that..

so your a21m should do the same..
