Hi I was wondering what kind of pentium 3 is in the a30...is it tualatin or coppermine?
if it is tualatin, is it possible to upgrade it to a pentium 3 that have

A30 CPUs
The 1.13 and the 1.2s are Tualatins and pretty much as high as you can go. I think the regular cache on the Tualatins (256kb) is pretty much all you can do, but I'm not a 100% on this. I'm not certain is the others are a simple adaptation of the Coppermines or whether that only refers to the desktop PC133 CPUs. Anything faster would have to be P4s and that would require a completely new MB. Besides, the Tualatins are pretty much the equal of the early P4s, so getting one of those and loading up with 512Mb or 1Gb of RAM would be a pretty competent machine.

im planning to get the a30 somewhere maybe in ebay or something...
many questions still left unknown to me..
but if i buy a 900 mhz one it would be considered as 256kb L2 and if bought 1.13 or 1.2 would considered as 512kb L2?
cause i think there is a 1.13 coppermine out there somewhere....

All of the A30/p machines were 512KB L2 cache.boon wrote:but if i buy a 900 mhz one it would be considered as 256kb L2 and if bought 1.13 or 1.2 would considered as 512kb L2?
Slowest A30 offering came with a 933MHz CPU.
Fastest were the 1.2GHz A30p machines.
Fastest PIII-M is a 1.33GHz.

Good Afternoon,
if of any help, i had my 2652-NS1 with a 1Ghz PIII with 512kb cache, and i got to change it with a 1.2Ghz 512kb, all from ebay. Last but not least, i purchased a cooler from a PIV A31 which is made of copper ( much better than the A30 stock ) and it all came together with arctic silver in the middle. Excellent outcome, plus 1 gig of Infineon chip RAMs i threw in right after the processor upgrade. The whole image was completed with a 80gb 5400 HD and a CDR/DVD Combo drive. I love this Machine!!
Go for it. The best CPU you can put is the 1.2Ghz. I also tried a 1.33 one with no success. After the above mentioned upgrades, the laptop is a lot faster than it used to be.
Friendly Regards
John
