Making recovery CD's R40

EDIT: Bought recovery discs, no need for this headache!!
Am I correct in my understanding that you can remove the info from the recovery partition and put them onto cd- So I would have full working copies to reinstall everything on my computer the way it was from the factory? I didn't think they would make it that easy...or that free.
