Heatsink - crooked?

#1 Post by drake3 » Thu May 11, 2006 8:21 am

Hi All,

I received my first Thinkpad - 2529eau, about 2 weeks ago. I did not notice when the unit came in because I was so impressed with the other stuff, but the copper heatsink on the rear of the unit is canted to the side.

The heat sink that vents to the side of the unit is aligned with the case, but the one on the back is canted to the side. One side of the sink is closer the edge of the case than the other.

The unit does not get hot under operation nor does the fan run more than normal.

I was just curious if this was normal. It looks strange to me and makes me want to stick something in the opening to straigten the unit up.

Thanks All,
Paul.

Mine's the same way. I never noticed until you mentioned it. It is pretty minor compared to the other problems I've had.

That situation is normal. They are not supposed to be the same for "cosmetic reasons" it is there for cooling reasons.

My Z60 has been very reliable, and I have had no problems. The build quality is as good as my T60. I am really impressed, as I usually only use the T series, but wanted a widescreen for the extra desktop size. It is really nice to be able to have a lot of windows open.

Thanks for answering the question. I was curious about it especially since it is so new.

I am really impressed with the machine so far. No problems yet, but have not loaded it up with alot "workhorse" software for my purposes.

The more I use my Z60m the better I like it. I had no reason not to like it from the beginning, it's just that I was used to "top of the line T series". Another interesting factor is the extra weight (compared to a 15" T) while not light, is really no big deal for me. Perhaps part of it is having a well balanced briefcase to carry it in. I travel on business everyday and carry whatever laptop I'm using with me. I have begun carrying the Z since I have become so attached to the extra screen size. In the 2 months that I have owned it, I have continued to be impressed with the build quality. Considering I also have a new T60, I'm in the position to accurately compare the two. Other than different materials compared to the T, it's just as high quality.

Just thought I would post this for those of you still on the fence about what to purchase.

archer6,

I think you will be more happy with Z60T if you
carry your notebook offen due to it's
slim & light design....!
