R40 IBM dual-band wifi b/g internal card issue

#1 Post by avalanchez71 » Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:10 pm

I have a ThinkPad R40 with the IBM dual-band b/g wireless card built-in (the card is actually made by Philips). The notebook is about two months old. The wireless card will now connect to my access point, using WEP, and get good signal, but it will only send, not recieve packets.

I have two other laptops on the same AP, and they are working fine.

I have removed & reinstalled the drivers for the card, and checked that I am using the latest drivers from IBM.

As far as I can tell, the card is working fine, but won't recieve packets. Just hoping someone else has solved this one before. Thanks in advance.

Most of the time, the notebook pulls a valid IP from my AP's DHCP server...but not always.

Did the R40 ever work with the access point?

Have you upgraded the firmware on the access point?

What kind of access point is it?

What are the other machines that work?

Yes, it has worked with this AP, and I've done NOTHING to the AP since it worked.

Linksys AP.

Other machines are HP w/Intel 2200 (Centrino), Dell w/Linksys PC card

The AP is using the latest firmware that I know of, but it has been the same for a while, no changes since it worked.

Hi,

It seems that I have the same problem. For some time WLAN works fine with the AccessPoint but then it stops working without any changing. Then I`ve deactivated IBM AccessConnections and used the WinXP-WLAN-option. Everytime I tried to connect with AccessConnections the build-in WinXP-WAN-Activation is deactivated. I do not know why.

So try connecting only with the WinXP-Option afer closing AccessConnections from memory.

Let`s see, if it works.

I uninstalled the IBM software long ago, and things have been working fine. I reinstalled the software thinking it might have had something to do with my troubles, but to no avail.

I have also run the built-in diagnostics on the entire system, all report fine.

I'd suggest checking Linksys for the latest firmware.

The R40 has a separate bios and "embedded controller". You probably had to update the bios to get the card working, but make sure both are up-to-date.

Problem Solved

I had IBM send me a replacement card, following installation, the problem was the same, however, when I checked IBM's site again, a driver update had been released. Following installation, my problem appears to be fixed. The IBM wireless utility no longer works, neither does the function key to turn the radio on/off (alerts me to update drives), but the card works fine using Windows to manage it.
