What keyboard was in R31 or A30: NMB, Alps or Chicony?

#1 Post by indessen » Sat May 13, 2006 1:29 am

Hi,

anyone know what manufacturer keyboards were used in the Thinkpad R31 and A30?

The FRU parts are, in my Thinkpads:

R31 - 02K5994

A30 - 02K5972

Background to the question is that I bought a R52 and found the keyboard to be crap, with help of this forum found out that I have a Chicony keyboard... which obviously is not very good. I want the same keyboard I am used to, so I need to know wheter I had NMB or ALPS.

Thanks!

I honestly don't know, I have removed the keyboard on my R31 a few times and there is no obvious trademarks (other then IBM). I have a different FRU number then yours as well (FRU 02k5990), though I suspect that is because you don't have a "US keyboard" layout. If this does help, it was made in Thailand and judging from the number of complaints (on this board and elsewhere); the Chinese made keyboards seem to be very problematic.

well, IBM is now sending me an NMB keyboard for my R52, I hope it's the one I am used to... judging by other threads here, NMB seems to be the one most liked i.e. the classic IBM-keyboard.
