Hi,
I'd been noticing really poor network performance recently, but only when my laptop was plugged into AC. On battery, performance was fine. As an example, copying a 60MB file from our fileserver takes a few seconds on battery, and about 10 minutes when on AC. It copies fine in the end, but just takes ages.
My machine has an Intel Pro/100 VE network card, and I downloaded the diags from the Intel site (which need to be run in DOS mode). The Network test (which requires another computer on a crossover cable running the diags program and configured as the responder) finally showed a difference - the test worked fine on batteries and failed on AC. But the help associated with the diags program is not that helpful.
So, just wondered if anyone here had seen anything like this, and whether its likely the network card itself that's the problem or the power management. I've tried all the obvious stuff like updating the BIOS and controller firmware, disabling all the power management (including speedstep) in the bios, etc., all made no difference.
Happy to run any other tests or post other info if required.
Many thanks,
David.
