R60 so expensive?

#1 Post by smek » Tue May 16, 2006 5:59 pm

The new R60 that is out with the specs is crossing into the T60 territory, I know you have the Z series as widescreen and T series as a top of the line all bells and wissels bussiness notebook, so wasnt the R60 supposed to be the economical version? I know it has good specs, but there are already models out with very similiar ones.

BTW here are the specs for R60 $2050
T2500
100GB HD
1GB

snap that is expensive. The R series "was" the replacement for the A series and was usually the cheapest model from IBM.

Snap $2k for an R series Laptop.

The funny thing is that A-series were very expensive and R-series were always reasonable. Maybe some of the R-series are swimming up-market? I mean the specs are excellent.

Or maybe when a corporation standardizes on a line like the R-series, this allows some flexiblity with outfitting various users?

However, like most of us, I prefer the T-series for the big bucks.

I think the specs are good, but for that price you can get a t60 with almost the same exact specs. I think the R series should stop at the $1500 range, or else they are jsut eating up their own market share.

Actually, the regular R series that are close to the T series in spec are almost exactly like the T series, except for the casing, so prices have always been comparable. The R-e series are the economy versions, but are also missing many of the ThinkPad goodies.

Can not agree more, it should be priced at $1500 or only a little higher. I do not understand Lenovo's price strategy. Now they have a T60 with a core solo 1300 CPU sold at $949, but have a R60 sold at - - - ??? For me, I'd rather choose the cheap T60 if I want to buy a new one.
The specs for the $949 T60 is not good, but it is acceptable for me. At least, it should be faster than my current X40 2371K1U and the price is just half of my X40.

The new price of R60 is $1267 with 128MB ATI Graphics, so it is reasonable.

Then again, GM has used several auto divisions to sell essentially the same car with different names for decades. Oh, and look how well they're doing...

The price with those specs is as listed above, and id rather get T60 as well, even if i wont get a 512mb stick. There should be some over lap, but the price overlap between the T60 and R60 is huge almost 1000 dollars.

Im not syaing that the R60 isnt "worth" that much with those specs, im just trying to figure out why put so much in there and price it so high.
