A31 hard disc upgrade

#1 Post by ekdya » Sat May 20, 2006 3:55 am

Hi

I need to get a bigger HD installed in my A31, well, I guess the question to ask is how to make a mirror copy from my small old HD every finger print of information to my new so that every thing would work?

thanks

Disk cloning software, like Ghost or Partition Magic, are perfect for this. I think Partition Magic is free for 30 days, too. The easiest way for an A31 is to borrow or buy an UltraBay hard disk adapter and place the new disk in the adapter. Then use the cloning software to copy the entire image to the new drive on a larger size partition.

It's very easy, simple and quick using this method.

Alternate scenarios would include creating an image of the original disk onto and external USB (or other) drive, then copying to the new drive. This would not require an UltraBay hard disk adapter.

Much more about this is available via searching on this board.

the ultrabay HD adapter comes with cloning software.

I normally replace the HD after two years and then use the old HD as a backup. (I never wait until they pack up)
