Perplexing R51 problem....

About a month ago, I sent my R51 in to get its motherboard replaced. When I got it back, I started experiencing a very strange problem - when I turn the power on, I can hear the fans and hard drive start up, but they stop a second later before I can see the preDesktop area screen or access the BIOS. This problem occurred intermittenly at first, but it has increased lately, and there were instances where the computer would just shut off when I move it.

When I talked to IBM Tech Support on the 22nd, they said it was a hard drive problem. So I removed the hard drive and tried again, and the computer shuts down at the same spot.

I'm doubting that this is a hard drive problem, but I am not sure. Since I need my laptop back as quickly as possible for my photography business, I would like to get a second opinion before I call IBM back tomorrow.

What do you guys think? IS it the hard drive that could be the problem, or is it something else?

Sounds like the system board - Selectron often uses used parts, which can be bad, too.

Ensure the BIOS and embedded controller are up to the most recent versions. You can also remove and/or reseat memory, optical drive and WiFi card to see if that helps.

If nothing helps, call IBM, they'll replace it, again.
