How much is a new display?

#1 Post by Annorax » Fri May 26, 2006 6:38 am

At work, my company has assigned me an R51. I believe it's a 15". It's a great laptop but the only thing I can't stand about it is the max resolution is 1024x768. I know that other than replacing the LCD screen, nothing can be done.

I was just wondering, how much would a new, higher resolution screen cost and how hard is it to install? Maybe I can try to talk my company into getting it...

More expensive than what you are going to want to pay to do it, thats for sure. Your best bet might be to find a compatible screen component for sale somewhere like Ebay or perhaps from a user here in the forums, and do the swap yourself. I can't give you a US price, but in Canada this is at least a $500 job including parts and labour, while a Solectron repair is Tier 5 at $1200 CAD.
