Hi Y'all,
I just bought an A30P!
Would like to upgrade the processor from a 1.2GHz to a 1.33GHz.(I know, it's only a small boost)
There was a T23 thread that said the proper 1.33 upgrade is the Intel Pentium-III-M SL6CQ.
Here's the thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ight=fcbga
There are two Pentium-III-M chips, the SL6CQ, which is micro-FCPGA and the
SL6CS, which is micro-FCBGA, and
I just want to make sure what is the correct processor to look for.
For those interested, I found a good description of FCPGA and FCBGA here:
http://www.asisupport.com/intel_mobile_cpu_info.htm
Thanks and good health, Weogo Reed

open up your thinkpad and find the processor number....
then go to the Intel website and find the family of processors to which your CPU belongs. ( http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/default.asp )
Make sure the step of the faster CPU is supported in your BIOS.

A30P processor upgrade
Hi Marinus,
"open up your thinkpad and find the processor number....

Sounds like this will work.
Do I have to take the fan off the processor to see the number?
"Make sure the step of the faster CPU is supported in your BIOS."
Excellent point!
I don't know how to do this, but I'll figure it out.
Good time to apply new heat transfer paste.
As soon as it gets here from an ebay auction...
Thanks and good health, Weogo

Yes, you'll have to take it off.Weogo wrote:Hi Marinus,

Get some Arctic Silver 5 and replace the stuff IBM / Lenovo uses with that. I have the impression that it works better.
