speedstep cpu and upgrades - list of motherboards

#1 Post by BeemerBiker » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:02 am

I have several A20M, two celeron, two P3 and have gone thru some upgrades. celeron -> P3 and 800x600 -> 1024x768

Here is a list I put together from googleing around the internet.

If your motherboard is listed as "speedstep" then you can run the P3 cpu at its listed speed. Otherwise you are limited to, at most, 700mhz irregardless of the P3 cpu you put in. I was able to verify only a few items, such as the A20M-4TU I got on ebay was indeed speedstep and the others were not.

I have put together the following table to show the actual cpu speed and the listed. This applies to anyone upgrading a non-speedstep motherboard. These values were observed on 4 different A20M one of which was speedstep

CPU/Speed - Actual
850 ----------- 700
750 ----------- 600
700 ----------- 550

Hope this helps anyone trying to upgrade CPU or motherboard!
