A20M 800x600 -> 1024x768 upgrade to 14"

#1 Post by BeemerBiker » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:23 am

I took a chance on a so-called 15" display for older A20M 800x600 on ebay. It was cheap and flawless, but it is at least 1/2 inch wider (mostly on the left) then the original top. It still fit on the hinges and works nicely at 1024x768 and came from a parted out A21M.

Just wanted to share this info as I googled around and read through the posts here and it was not clear if those larger displays would work. At least this one did nicely. It also came with a heat transfer pipe that attached to the left hinge and the old cpu heatsink. The old lid did not have that heat pipe mechanism.

15 Screen conversion

#2 Post by schen » Fri Jun 09, 2006 10:53 am

I watched my brother do one of these conversions a few years ago and his 15 screen over-hung the edges of the case bottom as well...that is until he found a keyboard bezel from a 15" version A21 and replaced the one from the 12/14 that was on the case. That's basically all the difference there was.

I'm about to do a far simpler 12 to 14 inch conversion on a parts machine that I picked up. I also need to do a motherboard swap as well since there's a password on the bios chip.
