Invalid Product ID

#1 Post by wetone » Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:02 pm

Can anyone tell me why (apart from the obvious) I keep getting *Invalid Product Key* when I try to access Windows-Update manually on my R50e, but it seems to update OK automatically. and my WinXP *is* genuine.
I've been on to Lenovo - that was a laugh!! No it wasn't!
Kind regards,
wetone

Which one are you typing in? The one on the COA on the bottom of the unit or the one shown when you click on "My Computer"?

The latter is the correct one to enter.

Invalid...etc.

Thanks for your prompt reply James,
Yes - they are different!
But I don't have to use the "Key" - MS does a search allegedly to see what updates are required and then comes up with their moronic remark, with no opportunity to put my plea of 'not guilty'!
Any ideas of how to get around this.
Chas.

Not really, except to allow it to perform the downloads automatically (you said that works OK?) and then set the update applet to let you manually select which updates to perform.

Great minds think alike - so they say....
Or it could be that I was offered an auto update this morning and all went OK!....so I decided to do just as you sugested.
It's all a mite strange though - so if you do come across a solution give us a bell - I'm set up to be notified.
Thanks for your time James.
Kindest regards,
Chas.
