R51e new Windows install

#1 Post by FRiC » Wed Jun 14, 2006 10:35 pm

I got a R51e with no preinstalled OS. After installing Windows, all drivers, and all software, there's still an unknown hardware - ACPI/IBM0068 in the Device Manager, and the hotkeys that have pop-ups (quick computer lock, wireless radio, presentation director, etc.) don't work.

Any clue?

If you want the IBM customizations and all latest drivers for your machine, just download thinkvantage system update or software installer and you'll be able to automatically download/install all latest apps, drivers, ... for your system.

IMO, the pre-installed IBM customizations are nothing more than the installation of all drivers and applications, and of course all those fancy ibm wallpapers

BTW; per new forum rules, please update your profile and add your location (I'm applying for that open thinkpads.com moderator-position  )

I figured it out. The missing driver is the ACPI Power Management driver for the ThinkPad PM Device. Both the system update and software installer don't detect it for auto installation.

It's also not listed in the R51e support and downloads page, but if I go to the ACPI Power Management driver page, R51e is listed as a supported system.

Also, as soon as I installed the driver, the pop-ups all work, so both problems stem from a single missing driver.

Install Service Pack 2 for your Windows XP, the problem will vanish.
I had the same problem. My laptop came with DOS license. After
you intall Service Pack 2 for XP, that yellow markings vanishes. :)
AFter that download IBM PPM driver's for Power Management
and battery maximizer gauge. 8)

I don't think it's related to SP2, since my Windows XP install CD already has SP2 slipstreamed. I also tried Windows Vista beta 2 and had the identical problem (unknown hardware device and non-working pop-ups.)
