left hinge being a little bit loose on r40

#1 Post by opera » Thu Jun 15, 2006 12:40 pm

Since I'm not getting much of a reply in the other part of the forum i might as well try my luck over here :)

Copy/pasted from my other thread (with minor corrections):

Hello everyone,

I'm about to buy a used R40 from a friend of mine, and most things seem to be just fine (and I'm thrilled over how well this machine goes together with Linux).

Anyway, trying to utterly check the machine I have found one flaw that disturbes me. The left LCD-hinge is a bit loose (looser then the right one anyway) and I wonder if this is normal, and if it isn't, if there is some way to tighten it. (Moving the screen back and forth also renders a clicking/squeking sound.)

To make it clear to you guys, it is not the pressure needed to open/close the lid that I'm on about, it's the way the left hinge is "connected" to the rest of the machine (the baseplate, not to the screen).

Anyway, this beeing my first post and all i hope I'm not about to get flamed to bits, and i hope my english isn't too bad either Smile

Thighten the screws should do the trick. They get loose sometimes.

Get the HMM for it and get used to taking your Thinkpad apart and re-assembling it. It will really pay off. Inspect it, clean it, take care of it, and it will take care of you. If you really want to get into it, simply apply the USMC's Rifleman's Creed to it. :D

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
