A20m diagnosis help?

#1 Post by crazymidget01 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 7:41 pm

I got this laptop from someone not working, i installed a new harddrive and now the computer basically works, but shuts off by itself after not much use. I thought it was the fan and the pc was overheating but i put the vent in front of my air conditioner and ran a CPU temperature program that read 35 degrees C, and it still shut off. I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose the problem. I brought it to a few computer places but noone wants to open it up. I'm not afraid of doing it myself i just dont know how to find the problem, if its not the fan, maybe the motherboard, or something else?? I dont know, if anyone can help please let me know.

Hi,
Is tis running on the battery or the charger? Does it happen when you move it or on a flat surface? Please add as much detail as possible.

The machine is running off the charger, the battery is basically toast, doesn't run on battery vary long at all. The machine isn't affected by moving it around, it still turns off when still or being moved around. It seems that the first time i start it in a while, it runs untill i try to open a program, then try to restart and it shuts off while booting up. I dont know what else to tell you about this [censored] thing, ask me anything

Ok, do this: go to system in control panel. Select the advanced tab and select the settings under startup and recovery. Once that is open, uncheck "automatically restart" under system failure heading. There is a small possibility a program is causing the system to blue screen and it is automatically shutting off because of it. It is a long shot but it's worth a try. If you get a blue screen though, write down the information you see and post it here.

Hey, that seemed to work at first, it definitely stays on a lot longer than it usually does, but it did turn off on me again. Any other ideas? By the way, thanks a lot for taking the time to try and help me, i really appreciate it.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum. Try as many of those suggestions as you can and then get back to me.
