a30p screen on an a30 motherboard.

#1 Post by Jathm » Mon Jun 26, 2006 7:15 pm

I have both an a30 and an a30p laptop and both mother board don't work. 1 has a corrupt graphics card, the other one the backlight control system on the mother board doesnt work.

What i want to know is if i buy an a30 motherboard can i use the 1600x1200 screen with the a30 board? If so are there any disadvantages from using the a30 motherboard vs. the a30p?

thank you for your time

-James

No, the display connectors are different between the A30 and A30p because of the different video cards.

A30 problems

#4 Post by schen » Tue Jun 27, 2006 8:39 am

Depending on what problems you have with the ones you have, you can always sell off the parts to recup some of your costs. Especially if the screen is still good on the A30, that in itself will cover almost half of what you'd have to give for the A30p MB. I'm in the process of rehabbing an A30 and just picking up the random missing or broken parts will eventually run up around $100. Good thing I didn't pay much for the carcass to start with!
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I was searching around the forums and found this thread

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... hlight=a30

So is this solution not possible for me because the a30 motherboard wouldnt be able to handle the larger screen?

And schen i probably will sell off some spare parts once I get one laptop working.
