Add Internal WiFi to A31

#1 Post by djpharoah » Tue Jun 27, 2006 6:15 am

Hi. My dad's A31 is currently being used with a PCMCIA wifi adapter. Im just curious to know what I would need and do to install an internal wifi card??

I dont think it has the antennae or am I wrong? Did all the A31s comes with internal antennae and a choice for wifi card ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Almost all A31s have the antennae installed, turn the unit over, open the mini-PCI access door and see if the antenna leads are tucked between the MB and the lower unit plastic.

If present, follow the instructions for installation as provided in the above referenced movie.

If not present, you'll have to install the antennae.

My A31 did not, and I installed the wire leads as per the
website that JHEM linked.
It was a tedious process, but it worked out very well.
I also installed an Intel 2195 ABG card as well.
That too worked out fine.

If the A31(P) did not come with a wireless mini-pci card, it won't have the antenna installed either.

Installation of the antenna requires a near complete disassembly of the laptop.

No big deal if you follow the hardware maintenance manual.

Using a Intel or Atheros card will require the '1802' bios mod. and maybe also a mod to avoid the 'too many ethernet controllers' warning.
