A30 Wireless G MPCI combo card?

#1 Post by Kendas » Wed Jul 05, 2006 11:01 pm

Anyone know if this is available? If so from who and with a part number if possible (IBM or equiv). I'd like to replace my 26P8472 802.11b MPCI wireless LAN/modem combo card with the like 802.11b/g or 802.11abg. Dell I know... Inspiron/Latitude parts interchange a lot even though the part number is different. Even different models of them parts interchange. I just don't know if they do with TPs.

BTW - Not hard to tell but, I'm new on this forum. Not to computers... My first "PC" was an Altair (I even have one of the toggle switches still).

Thanks.

15 inch XVGA 768MB, DVD 1-Dual layer R/W DVD 2 RO, Dock Ultrabay 2k Battery Modem daughter card, 802.11A/B/G...
And anything else I can stuff in.

Any one else here old enough to have used an IBM 029 Keypunch? :}

Replacing the old MPCI combo card with an Intel 2915ABG went well. Straight swap for the wireless, and the addition of a IBM modem daughter card (Intel soft modem) gave me the "G" 54 mips speed without losing the modem (which would have happened with just the Intel wireless card).

Problem solved... Anyone else with an A30 can upgrade their wireless to 802.11b/g with no modifications. If you want to keep the modem just go out to ebay and pick up the modem daughter card (p/n 26p8477) for about $5.

Both my IBM modem and ethernet daughter cards seem to work fine in the A30 with the new Intel 2915ABG card that I just installed, so you might not need to get another modem card.

That's true except that my A30 came with the mpci combo card. Combo card is the wireless lan (802.11b) AND the modem. Removing it removes the modem function too (checked the hardware profiles and modem missing after removing the combo card). Since the Intel wireless card does not include the modem function (Checked the hardware profile again) I added the modem daughter card that I had in my "spares" box. Everything is working including the fax/modem just as if I had never opened the box. Now I have what I had before except wireless is now 802.11abg.
