Who'da thunk it - Lenovo made a workstation out of the Z-series.

Wait till they get a Santa Rosa Merom in that Z6Xp config.

Um, they do. Its called the T60p 14".sugo wrote:Why can't they make one with 14.1"?
Or do you mean a 14" widescreen like the Z61t? In that case, its because the chassis can't support the thermal dissipation. That's why there are no discrete graphics.

Come on, give them a break. First people were wishy washy on whether or the Z Series was an *actual* Thinkpad, and now that it has proven itself as much of a Thinkpad Series as the T, R, X, and A lines Now, get this, they are supposed to make a change to the Z61s to make a 14.1" widescreen as well as a new battery just to make it "acceptable?" I think that is going a bit too far and asking too much as of the moment, especially seeing as how they already have 14.1" models in 4:3 ratio.sugo wrote: As much as I looked forward to a widescreen thinkpad, Z60/1t just falls short of my expectation.
Besides, the Z61t is more similar to the X Series than to T60p; a better comparison would be the Z61m to the T60p. Still, you are comparing apples and oranges here can complaining that you want something smaller that tastes, distinctly, like both.
This is similar to

Then why not get a nice T60 or stick with your T42 then, mmm?
The T42 is pretty much one of the Flagship Thinkpads and I can't see a huge need to change things about it.

I love the viewing angle of it personally. I agree, Lenovo should differentiate itself by using more IPS panels than other mfrs.Puppy wrote:Pity, IPS technology has better color representation than any TN panel.fbrdphreak wrote:Doubtful, the only ones that seem to have that are 15" SXGA+ & UXGA.

They lsitenedLenovo needs a widescreen notebook in a business class, one of my first things to consider before buying a z60 was that it had to be widescreen, and Im sure there are people out there with the same mind set as me. Im sure they would get more sales if they made something more distinct about the z series, as maybe adding a truly powerful workstation video card into one would really sway some people into buying the TP.

This looks really good. Lenovo should consider selling a 14" Z6xp. I know plenty of folks who want a discrete GPU as well as the portability of the 14" form factor.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
Had there been a Z60t with discrete GPU and 6-cell battery, I would have gotten one instead of the T60 I have now

T60 (200764U) - T2500, 14" SXGA+, 2GB RAM, 100GB, ATI X1400, DVDRW, BT, 3yr IWS
T60 (20074UH) - T2400, 14" XGA, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB, ATI X1300, DVDRW, BT, 3yr IWS
Z60t (2513MHU) - Pentium M 1.73, 14" WXGA, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD, DVD/CDRW, 3yr IWS
T60 (20074UH) - T2400, 14" XGA, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB, ATI X1300, DVDRW, BT, 3yr IWS

There won't be a discrete GPU in the Z6xt series for the forseeable future due to the constraints of the chassis itself. If they re-design the 14" widescreen form factor, there could be one in the future. However with Intel's forthcoming integrated graphics you might not care too much

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
