Z60t Hibernation problem

#1 Post by t3chdzyn » Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:56 am

Hi folks,

I'm working with a Thinkpad Z60t that belongs to one of the Partners of my company. The problem it's having is that it won't hibernate. I've installed the latest power management software from IBM. The funny thing is is that when you go in and tell it to hibernate when pressing function + f3, it just turns the screen off. When you make the change and hit apply it will instantly change to where it says it will go to sleep, but instead of going to sleep, it will still only turn the screen off. Any ideas short of backing up and doing a fresh install?

Is the hibernation in power management in windows enabled?

Yes, been through just about every setting I can find, and they all reset themselves back to sleep. After I first updated the IBM power management tools, it worked fine, I gave the laptop back and then the next day it was back to reseting itself off of hibernate. The harddrive has something like 40gigs worth of free space so it's not a space issue.

Do you have a non-windows firewall installed? I put on my favorite rules-based firewall and forgot to disable Window's firewall service. It did exactly what you're describing everytime I tried to hibernate/sleep.

Thread moved :)

I would try running the R&R off the Z60t after backing everything up should that indeed be the last resort; if that doesn't work, you could just send it in to IBM/Lenovo. :)

Have you tried putting it in hibernation mode by pressing Fn + F12?
(And for putting it to sleep try pressing Fn + F4.)

When trying the function + F12 it will say it's going to hibernate, but then it will kick back on like 5 seconds later. Thanks for the info guys, I'll pass this along to my boss who uses the Z60t. I'll keep ya posted.

Did you try disabling hibernation, booting, enabling hibernation, booting and trying it again? If that doesn't work, it may be a memory or conflict problem.

It's hibernating!!! Thanks smvp6459, we are running a hardware firewall so he didn't have any other firewall software running, Windows or otherwise. I hopped into the services manager and disabled the Windows Firewall / ICS service, after that, works like a freaking charm. Many thanks from me and my boss.
