Interested in Z60t from Lenovo.com...some questions

#1 Post by jagged » Fri Jul 28, 2006 11:38 am

Hello!

I'm considering buying a couple of Z60t's from Lenovo.com for my staff (US$800 budget) and here are the specs:

Z60t (251211U) - $749 with free shipping + sales tax (not sure how much tax in CA)
Pentium M 730 1.73Ghz
1GB RAM (512MB free from the Lenovo promo)
40GB 5400 HD
DVD/CDRW
4-cell battery
Windows XP Pro
IWS including my country

Actually, I prefer the $599 deal (with Celeron processor) but it doesn't come with Win XP Pro (needed to connect to company domain). Main use for the Z60's will be emailing, Word, Excel, and accessing Quickbooks database.

Just curious, how's Z60t quality compared to say T-series notebooks? I've had 3 T60's and I'm generally very satisfied with it. Also, how long is actual battery life with the 4-cell battery? Lastly, does the T60 and Z60t use the same battery adaptor plug?

Another model I'm considering is a Lenovo 3000 N100 (CoreDuo 1.66, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD) and price from a 3rd party vendor is $899 net. It would be slightly cheaper if I include the $100 Lenovo rebate offer but since I'm not from the US, I won't be able to get the mail-in rebate.

I haven't seen a N100 but would you say that the Z60t has better quality than N100? The N100 has better processor and bigger HD (don't really need that much space actually) but less RAM. Is it worth the extra $100?

I also searched for good offerings from HP but dind't find any (I'm limiting my choices between HP and Lenovo) so I may need to decide before July31 to get the free shipping and 512MB RAM from Lenovo.com. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for the advice and suggestions!

z60 has great build quality and is on par with the T series. If you are looking to save some cash why not get the $599 Celeron z60s and buy Win XP pro seperatly for $50 or so.

As for the battery, my z60 with 4 cell lasts around 2 hours on the power saving settings. And I wouldnt go with the n100 if those are you basic tasks, it is not worth the extra cash for your purpose.

Hi o1sowise, sorry to your troubles and thanks for the links. Has your issue been "resolved" ?

I had some issuges with some Thinkvantage programs in my T60 before too but its all ok now with the latest update.

I might probably go for the Z60t, I hope everything goes smoothly :)

Where can I buy Win XP Pro for $50? They usually go for $150-180 I think.

Thanks for the well wishes, but sorry to say that the major issue still remains. Monday I'm scheduled to have the CPU replaced. I'm not hopefull, but they need to follow their process...

I have no clue what the next step would be if/when the CPU replacement does not work...

Stay tuned...

1) Purchased 5 of the Z60t $599 for my company and could not be happier. No issues at all.

2) Every bit as good as the T series that I personally use, as well as the ones we use in the company.

3) Bought 2 to try out and they are a good budget computer, but nothing compared to a ThinkPad. It's simply night and day. Currently with the discounted ThinkPads I see no reason to even consider Lenovo branded notebooks.
