z60m Screen Problems?

#1 Post by susansms » Sat Jul 29, 2006 9:54 am

I just got a z60m, model 2529-RCU. There is a noticeable dark shadow on the lower right and lower left areas of the screen, near the edge of the lid, extending in about an inch or two. Has anyone else encountered this? What could be the cause?

This has been a topic of discussion not only with ThinkPads but other brands (Apple/Toshiba/Dell/HP/etc) and is for the most part a normal characteristic of Laptop LCD displays. That said, it' my experience that the amount of "shading" varies and when it's as large as yours you may want to take advantage of the 30 day Lenovo exchange period and get a new computer.

The amount I notice is different on each of my various ThinkPads, however if I had to estimate an average size it would be protruding inward from the lower left and right corners of the display about the size of a pencil eraser head. It's semi circular, convex in shape. Since it's something that (at least in my case) does not change over the years and has never created a true problem, I tend not to even notice it anymore. Other than being noticeable when first scrutinizing a new computer, its' harmless and in my opinion a much better situation to live with than dead, or stuck pixels.

Thanks for that info. Now that I know it isn't anything "wrong," I just need to decide whether I can live with it in such a large area (Protrudes in about 2 inches).
