Waiting for my Z60m 2531MTU
Pulled the trigger on a Z60m 2531MTU today.
Web price $1049.00. To good of a price to pass up. Core Duo will have to wait until next time. If it is anything like my T43 it should be a great machine.

Congrats!
I also ordered a Z-series but a Z60t 2513MHU at $749 (Pentium M 1.73, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD, DVD/CDRW, Win XP Pro, 3yrs IWS) with free shipping from Lenovo.com
My budget was originally for a Celeron Z60m only but the z60t offer was too good to pass up. I'm sure my staff who will be using it will be very happy hehe

I kinda wrecked my T42 trying to replace the backlight - it still works with a external monitor, but I had trouble sealing the case back up. Plus there was another pre-existing problem anyway, which seems to be caused by a loose solder connection or wire or somesuch (the screen freaks out and becomes unreadable sometimes when I simply move the laptop - this happens with the external monitor too). The T42 was out of warranty.
So, I've been using my X21 again (glad I never sold it!).
Anyway, I ordered my 2531MTU on monday, and it just shipped.

The tracking info shows mine just left Kentucky.
EDIT: now it is in Oklahoma City (I was hoping it'd go from Kentucky to Dallas!)

Looking forward to receiving the Z60m. The only thing I don't like about the system is the plastic LCD lid/cover. I have ordered the titanium cover and will be replacing the lid as soon as all the parts arrive. Don't know if this will void the warranty but the way my laptops get bumped around/dropped I think I will be better served by the tougher LCD cover.

God I feel green with envy when I see the prices you guys across the pond pay for your Thinkpads!
I managed to pick up the following for just under UK£900 (about US$1700) a month ago - and it was meant to be a genuine bargain by UK standards (UK£300 cheaper than anywhere else):
Z60t: 2.0GHz, Wifi a/b/g, XP Professional, 512MB, 80GB, 14" WXGA TFT, DVD-RW, Bluetooth, Fingerprint, titanium top
A quick search on Froogle USA shows Kaanza.com doing the same laptop for US$1067 !!
Jammy sods!

When you get the laptop - please post your impressions. I'm stacking my pennies to buy one of these as well - hoping they will still be available in a few days. But would love to know your thoughts once you get it.
Great specs - and good reviews from what I have read, but every review suggests that this is more of a 1 pc desktop machine, and not really the size to pack up and move too often.

From my perspective, this is just the writers opinion. ThinkPads are getting so good these days that the journalists have to pick something to complain about.BioHazard wrote:Great specs - and good reviews from what I have read, but every review suggests that this is more of a 1 pc desktop machine, and not really the size to pack up and move too often.
From my experience with the Z60m, it's a great machine that is easily portable. It's less than one pound heavier than my T60... Specifically just .8 lb. heavier! Dimensions are just .8" wider .3" narrower and .2" thicker than a 15" T60. These are very small differences.
It is extremely comfortable to type on with the full size, super high quality keyboard and display that is really bright and clear. Compared to the competition this is a stellar machine.
I would highly suggest this ThinkPad to anyone who is interested in the benefits of the wide screen format.

That is quite a list of ThinkPads in your sig. Not to be nosey but why so many? Not that I am criticizing as I am planning on adding a 15" T43 to the stable. Nice collection.

The list in my signature represent many years of using a ThinkPad as one of the mission critical elements of my business. As a tech guy, I chose to keep them as they are all in "showroom" condition, still fully functional and fun to use from time to time. They are worth more to me as milestones in the growth of my business, than what they would fetch on the open market....unimorpheus wrote:archer6

I received mine on monday, and I'm extremely happy with it.BioHazard wrote:When you get the laptop - please post your impressions. I'm stacking my pennies to buy one of these as well - hoping they will still be available in a few days. But would love to know your thoughts once you get it.

I've been using my X21 since June because of problems with my out-of-warranty T42 - the display went out (backlight) and there's also a loose solder connection or wire somewhere inside (I can use an external monitor, but 2yrs of grabbing the T42 with one hand while it is open has caused some sort of internal stress damage - so if I move it or type on it just right the display wig's out on me and I have to reboot).
Anyway, like archer6 said, it isn't much bigger than the the T 15" series. Anyone who needs a compact laptop can simply go with the X series. I did enjoy using my X21 again - that's still a nice little machine. But it is great to have some power again. And I love the widescreen display. I read someone complaining about the sound quality, but I've used nothing but thinkpads, so the first thing I noticed was how great the sound was - I thought it was very un-thinkpad like.
The build quality is top-notch too - it seems better than my T42, sturdier or something. My T42 never seemed quite right to me.
I wasn't going to do a clean install of XP on it, but I'm now in the middle of that anyway. I wanted to use my 60gig drive from my T42 in the ultra bay, so I used acronis to back up the C partition of the 60gig 7200rpm drive from my T42, and I was using the ultra bay of my Z60m for this. Then I put an old 20gig drive in the ultrabay and I tried to write that image to it, and I think I mistakenly wiped the master boot record on the Z60m's drive somehow (I usually use ghost - I'd never tried acronis before). I didn't realize this untill I got home from work and tried to boot up my Z60m. I tried repairing it with a copy of XP, but it wouldn't work, so I got fed up and just installed XP from scratch. And the 20gig doesn't work in the T42 either ... I guess that was quite the wasted effort.
Sorry for the rant - but it is a sweet machine. I spent all day monday and tuesday getting it just how I wanted it and all my software loaded up. It was working great, and I had absolutely no complaints. I guess it's time to do it all again - except now I have to load all the drivers and whatnot too, of course.
EDIT: and BTW, the reason I didn't use ibm's rapid restore is because I had already wiped that hidden partition ... DOH!
But I hadn't got around to making a ghost/acronis image of my Z60m yet. I was going to do that tomorrow.

I was traveling and the simple request was to have it shipped to my hotel. Rather than go into the entire story here, as I really do not want to get all worked up again, suffice to say that while I really like the ThinkPad product and I'm trying to give some slack to Lenovo, there are times like this where one asks themselved WTF is going on here?

For the guys who ordered from the Lenovo outlet store, did you get your units already?
I just checked my order status now and realized that shipping was moved from 8/11 to 8/23. Actually, I ordered the Z60t (2513MHU) under the "buy today, ship today" deal but since I added the "free" 512MB RAM on promo last month, delivery was moved to 8/11.
Now, I don't get why Lenovo had to move delivery to 8/23 when the z60t I ordered is a phased out model. (?????)

I don't know of any company that will ship to a hotel unless you not only specifically ask them, but provide enough proof to make them sure that they are sending it to the right person. In the end, though, it should just be handed off to the shipping agent (FedEx Express, FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) and that should be that.
Then again, shipping stuff from China during the little SARS and bird-flu fiasco, in addition to seeing one of my shipments go to Alaska and Ontario, must make life very difficult for IBM/Lenovo too (especially considering that Customs not only holds huge shipments of electronics equipment to check for fraudulently made products, but also, apparently, for their abilities as fomites and pathogens).

Yes, actually this is a simple request. I have items shipped to me wherever I am worldwide (with few exceptions) without a problem. As far as the hotel is concerned, most luxury hotels have special services for their regular guests and will go out of their way to accomodate any request (within reason). In this particular case, I simply cancelled my order with Lenovo. Then, I ordered from Euclid and it was at my hotel in just two days. Quite simple really...christopher_wolf wrote:This is a simple request?archer6 wrote: I was traveling and the simple request was to have it shipped to my hotel.

The Z60m finally left the states thanks to my buddy receiving it from UPS and forwarding via USPS. My unit was at my door on 06Aug06 even though it was not scheduled to ship until 17Aug06. I would give Lenovo a call on that one.For the guys who ordered from the Lenovo outlet store, did you get your units already?

I found out through my purchase through Lenovo that they actually verify shipping information with your credit card company (many good comanies do this). If you had informed your credit company that your hotel was a valid shipping address, Lenovo would have matched that information and your order should have proceeded smoothly.christopher_wolf wrote:This is a simple request?archer6 wrote: I was traveling and the simple request was to have it shipped to my hotel.

I am well aware of this procedure, as I travel all over the world and have purchases shipped to my hotel on a regular basis. I had indeed, notified my credit card company even before the final order with Lenovo. Then upon contacting Lenovo I gave them all the info. It was 2 days later that they contacted me and said that they do not provide this service. When I asked for a superior, they gave me the run around. In the past I have had 3 ThinkPads delivered to me this way when IBM was the vendor, it was easy and they were happy to provide the service. So, in this particular case I can only surmise that once again it is the flagging performance of Lenovo that caused this failure to occur. They seem to have no sense of urgency or importance, instead they display apathy, inconsistancy and complacency.u2wedge wrote:I found out through my purchase through Lenovo that they actually verify shipping information with your credit card company (many good comanies do this). Conversely, I picked up the phone, called Euclid Computer and they were happy to accomodate me. I had the computer the very next day! Since then I have purchased over 50 ThinkPads for my company from them. They have a great inventory, are easy to communicate with and perform in an exemplary manner.
