R52 freezes when installing TPM (shown as UnknownDevice)

#1 Post by newtothinpad » Tue Aug 08, 2006 2:16 am

Hi all

I have a R52 (1860-HK5) that has been acquired recently. Since I was using a notebook (of another brand) that broke half-way through my thesis writing, I had to quickly get myself going again. I therefore used Ghost to clone the old notebook image and dump it to the R52. After rebooting the R52 and using the ThinkPad auto-update a few times , I got it to recognize pretty much all the hardware except one. It was showing as an unknown device.

By checking on the R52 drive page and on guessing, I figured it must be the TPM (Trusted Platform Module). However, when I try to update the driver, it freezes half way when copying the tddl.dll, every time. I had to press the power switch a few seconds to reboot the ThinkPad.

After reading this forum, I tried running sfc.exe (no report of error) and the ThinkPad autoupdate (no report of dated driver). Now there is still a '!' next to a system device under the Device Manager. Every time I boot up the ThinkPad, it finds this new hardware (now called 'system') and wants me to install it.

Any suggestion to resolve this problem please?

Many thanks.

We also have this issue with the 160+ R52's that we just purchased at work. We settled on just disabling the device until we find a solution.
