Thnkpad R51 DC IN socket

#1 Post by fpugliano » Wed Aug 09, 2006 10:17 am

Hi, the DC IN socket on the back of my laptop is loose and the power plug doesn't fit properly anymore. Therefore recharging the laptop is very diffcult, since you have to play around with the jack to find a suitable position.

The laptop is out of waranty. If I want to estend it it would cost me 200 bucks. Then God knows how long would it take between shipping the laptop and receiving it back.

So I decided to replace the part by myself. I called the Customer Support and they told me I need to buy a kit (part number 13R2875).

Now, does any of you have ever performed such task? What are your suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Francesco

Check on ebay for a single DC jack. You should find one for a couple of bucks, defently cheaper than the misc parts set form IBM.

IBM TP T41p (1.7G/1GB/100GB-7k100/DVD-CDRW/SXGA+/BT)
IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)
For sale: n/a
WTB: n/a

Thanks folks,

the problem is not the jack but the socket you plug the jack in... Anyway I just both the Miscellaneous part kit for 25 bucks from IBM (plus 15 buck for shipping and handling).

It will be real challenging to dismantle the whole laptop but I see there are nice videos on the IBM web site on how to do that.

Anybody went through the same pain btw?

Thanks,

Francesco
