Z61t questions and recommendations...

#1 Post by Henry S » Fri Aug 11, 2006 2:58 pm

I am looking to buy a z61t and I think that it does not have an Express Card slot. Is this device really important or will it be really important in the future? I want to buy a TV Tuner for my computer and I know that there are PCMCIA card tuners out thereand Avermedia makes an ExpressCard Tuner. What would be the advantage of the ExpressCard Tuner and will there be a significant speed or performance difference?

Furthermore, I was wondering if there is a way of installing bluetooth into the z61t. Perhaps by PCMCIA card?

I am going to UCLA in September and am a big movie watcher and video editer. Sould I get the Z61t (ok graphics), Z61m (bigger screen and graphics, but heavier), or be a traditionalist and stick with the T60 or T60p (not widescreen)? I plan to take my laptop to many of my classes to take notes and I didn't think the T60 was that heavy. Thanks for the help.

More questions! :D

Express cards are for the future but at the moment are much rarer and more expensive than PC cards so i think if there is only one slot the pc card slot is still the one to have. As mentioned in the other thread, i would advise a USB tuner personally.

Bluetooth USB options are tiny and cheap these days, pc card ones are fine but normally more expensive, I had a nice 3com one that had a spring-out antenna. Adding the internal bluetooth on the Z60t is not difficult either - just taking off the LCD bezel - all of them have the connector for the card and the antenna is integrated with the card.

I'm not a fan of widescreens in general unless your primary purpose is watching movies so would advise a T60. The Z60m is quite large and heavy in comparison to the Z60t and T60 so might get annoying if you are carrying it around a lot
