Google Earth causes machine to lock up

#1 Post by Puppy » Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:35 am

Suddenly my R51 with Radeon 9000 nearly always crashes when Google Earth is started. There are two items in Event Log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ati2mtag
Event Category: None
Event ID: 108
Date: 12.8.2006
Time: 15:26:42
User: N/A
Computer: IBMR51
Description:
The driver ati2dvag for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Date: 12.8.2006
Time: 16:31:02
User: N/A
Computer: IBMR51
Description:
Error code 000000ea, parameter1 86bdaa58, parameter2 86a7ace8, parameter3 86cceb38, parameter4 00000001.

Does it mean it indicates my motherboard needs a replace ? :(

More on this issue. I use original preinstalled ATI drivers. I found following article http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-50883 but the update is not listed in Software Installer. Should I install it or not ?

And this one does not look nice at all :-/

This would make sense (reply no.51 from that forum above):
OK - I just had the system board replaced. So far things are running very smoothly. I can move the laptop and pick it up in one hand without it freaking out. The service technician said that he’d seen the problem many times and that at it seems to happen generally around the 2-year mark.

Since R51 and T42 shares many parts this might a "fix" :?
