MY R52 suddens shut down after plug-in optical USB mouse.

#1 Post by akesayyo » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:25 am

After updated WinXP Pro lastest patchs, when I plug-in USB mouse that works fine for a year, my laptop suddens shutdown. I have to remove a mouse and adapter cable, and plug-in the cable again to turn on. Sometimes while rebooting, plug-in USB mouse causes laptop turn off itself. Moreover, if the laptop can turn on normally with USB mouse pluged, it will shut down automatically in case I move the USB mouse plug around. My computer is out of quarantee and my town doesn't have IBM shop. Do you guys know how to fix the problem without going to the shop? Thank you.

Ok, the wild goose chase is on!
  • The latest patch might be the culprit.
    • Does another mouse work?
    • Backup your data, format HD, reinstall Windows. Mouse worky? Add patches, one by one. Still worky?
I think that our friends at microsoft maintain a "knowledge base". It might just have the answer to your question.
  • The mouse may be b0rked. Does the mouse work on another machine?
  • The USB port may be b0rked. Does any USB device work on it?
In the last case, yor're looking at giving some business to your friendly IBM service center.

YMMV, all disclaimers apply, add smileys where appropriate, void where prohibited by law, keep out of small children,
cheers,
