Z61 SIM Card Slots

#1 Post by invictus » Tue Aug 15, 2006 2:36 pm

Looking at the HMM for the new Z61 series (e/m/p/t) I had noticed that the laptops have a SIM card slot?!!? What's this all about? The Z60 series don't have this.

Now I'm really curious...

But the Z60 series doesn't have a slot and it's able to use the cellular network for internet access, or am I thinking of something else with the wireless WAN?

Hi,

does anybody know if it's possible to add a sim slot in a Z60t. For instance the one is used in the Z61t models (FRU 41W1309)?

I have a Z61t with a WWAN card, but I've never used it, I dont even know where the SIM card slot is. If I could get the replacement cover for the antenna, I'd consider selling the antenna, card, and SIM slot (if its removeable).

Hi sparta.rising,

If you remove the battery you can see the small slot on the backside.

Unfortunately, that's not a good idea during the warranty period, because you loose warrenty by removing the SIM Card Slot or opening the display cover to get the antenna. :(
These parts aren't CRU (Customer Replaceable Units).

Hmm, I might call support to confirm this because I was thinking about removing the antenna from day 1 (I bought it used). Mostly just for aesthetics.

Hi,

Oh, I thought it's an internal antenna like the one are used for WLAN. If it's an external one I don't know the warranty state. You're right, it's better to call the Lenovo service. :)

Its internal, but causes a bulge on the display. I just have done repairs on so many out of warranty machines I never considered what might be warranty ineligible.
