Z Series compared to T40
I have a T40, and am looking at replacing it soon.
How does the Z series compare to the T60, if I am interested in 2.0ghz dual core and ATI graphics card?
I am a college student, and do alot of internet, work processing, AIM, the occasional game, and occasional photoshop.

2.2ghz MacBook Pro

Dell 20.1" Widescreen - 2007WFP

Its difficult to compare the 2 models. Obviously both Zs are widescreen (which i'm firmly against) but the Z60t has only integrated graphics and the Z60m is much bigger and heavier than the 14" T60 (which is the better one IMHO). I would say that the Z series is more geared towards home users / students personally whereas the T series is all business.

Re: Z Series compared to T40
If you want a discrete graphics chip, you will be comparing the T60 to the Z61m.
The Z61m series is going to be a lot heavier than the T60. If I had to choose between the two of them, I'd take the T60. The T60 will generally be sturdier than the standard Z61m (although the Z61m with titanium lid is just as sturdy), and much easier to transport.

what is drawing me to the Z series is the widescreen, firewire, and card reader; so the more multimedia features.
The T40 is just too buisness for me, even though i love the durability and so forth.
Are they comparable quality, and performance wise?

Yup, tried the Z60t and the Z60m and they both feel just as durable as my T43.atct86 wrote: Are they comparable quality, and performance wise?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

They should be as durable if you get he titanium lid on the Z60m (even though I prefer black, if feels flimsy without it with the 15" widescreen). Performance is much the same given same chipsets, cpus, gpus etc are available. If performance is important (and price is not so much) then you may consider the Z60p - the specs are impressive.atct86 wrote:what is drawing me to the Z series is the widescreen, firewire, and card reader; so the more multimedia features.

Actually the T60p and Z61p share the same internal specs. Major differences are that the Z series have more multimedia capabilities such as widescreen LCD's, card reader, and firewire port. Outside of that the internal specs are virtually identical and they share many of the same external items such as docking stations, slim line ultra bay expansions, etc. I was actually considering the T60p when the Z61p came out. The widescreen had me hooked.
