R41 Screen goes blank during startup

Ive had a R41 for about a year, and it is normally in the dock with an external monitor. However sometimes when starting up, the screen goes blank and the computer seems to stop after the scrolling window. It never seems to do anything.

This seems to happen randomly and only when it is out of the dock. If I turn it off, and then back on when docked or connected to the power it works fine.
