z61m keyboard light

#1 Post by NS » Fri Aug 18, 2006 12:29 pm

Well the keyboard light on the Z61m is useful but not very bright. Has anyone ever succeeded in replacing it with maybe a bright white LED light or something brighter at all?

Thanks!

I'd like to know if this is possible as well. I kept reading that the LED for the keyboard is a white color, but it apparently is a yellowish color.

Keyboard Light

The light on the older thinkpads is white, the 60 series seems to have moved to an amber light that seems a little dimmer than the old one. In complete darkness though it still seems to cast enough light on the keyboard for me. Interestingly, the older thinkpads had the light offcenter but this one seems centered. Personally I would like a blue light or perhaps red for use in the dark with my screen set to night vision mode, this would help preserve night vision if I was outside using a telescope with it (which is one of the reasons I bought the Z61M).

The idea behind it is that it doesn't flood your visual receptors with the light intensity at all frequencies (as the bright whites/blues on the T Series can), thereby preserving your night vision even after use of the ThinkLight for extended periods of time. Although the output is similar, it seems less "intense" because of the wavelengths they emit; to some people I have met, it is a preference as to what they would like to have lighting up their Thinkpad, keyboard, and proximal work area...It does, illuminate, the keyboard very well. :)
