Z61p and Advanced Dock Problem

#1 Post by {ISV-K}SVX » Sun Aug 20, 2006 9:45 pm

I am having a problem with my Z61p and my Advanced Dock. Problem in a nutshell, when I put the Z61p in the dock while the laptop is on, nothing connected to the dock works until I reboot the PC. This includes external USB keyboard, mouse, etc. The monitor works, but nothing else. I am using WinXP pro with all the latest drivers from Software installer. Is there something I am missing? Is there a driver or something for the dock so that it will support hot docking? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I reinstalled from scratch and then downloaded all of the software. I use software update to stay current.

No idea - It should definitely support hot docking but I don't have a Z61p yet - as soon as it arrives I will give it a try

Is there a driver that I need for the advanced dock that would allow the components to be recognized when plugged in hot?

Hi,
i had a similar problem with my z60m and the advanced dock, but it was concerning USB-devices only. Sometimes when i put my laptop into the dock the USB-devices are not recognized.
The (annoying) workaround is:
1) disconnect the laptop from the docking station
2) You have to create the system variable "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" and set it to 1.
3) Then go into the hardware manager and in the "view" menu activate "show all devices" or "show disabled devices" (i don't know the exact name in english, because i have a german menu)
4) Then you have to delete all the devices from the hardware manager that are connected and don't show up, also the dockinstation
5) search the file infcache.1 (it should be in "C:\windows\inf") and delete it
6) turn of the computer and remove the batterie and the power cord and hit the power button a few times and do the same thing with the dockinstation

after i have done this everything works fine.
i found out that it has something to do with one of my devices (from my telephone system) that is connected via USB and is powered on all the time even if everthing is turned off. After disconnecting it from the USB port the problem does not occur as often.
Somehow it supplies the USB-port with power which messes something up and then the problem occurs (i don't know exactly what happens there).

I hope this helps and if you find a solution to the let me know.
Greetings from Germany
