Hello.
I have a very annoying problem with my R40 (2.0GHz, 768MB RAM, 1400x1050 TFT, 80GB HDD, Radeon 7500 Mobility). After some time of working or playing with the machine, at one time the screen looks distorted, as like every horizontal line of the TFT has another starting point that changes from picture to picture. (Picture 1). If I press the arrow-marked point on the Radeon graphics chip with a plastic pen (Picture 2), everything wents back to normal until I lift it up. As longer the machine runs, you have to use more pressure, to get the screen back to its normal state. You can also press the monitor connector a lot more than the point on the chip, with the effect that the main board bends a bit, and the screen looks normal again. But I think this causes the same as pressing the point on the chip directly. Could it be a cold soldered connection somewhere on the board? Is the marked point the chip's ground connection? Has anybody had that kind of problem before?
I hope somebody knows the answer...
