Internal wireless card for R50e

#1 Post by Bear_UK » Wed Aug 30, 2006 5:45 am

Hi,

I've recently taken over a R50e at work, model 1834 i think, that doesn't have built in wireless, whereas the other R50e's in the office do.

Is it possible to get a mini-pci wireless card for my model, and if so, what's the best bet. Is it difficult to fit?

Thanks in advance, great forum, very helpful

Hopefully your machine is "wireless ready" which means the antenna is already installed in your chassis.

The part nbr you need is FRU93P3483.

There are installation/removal videos on the IBM site that walk you through the procedure to install.

If you do not have the antenna installed, it means some pretty fancy dis-assembly of the LCD Bezel and panel, and I don t know how readily available the antenna is from IBM.

Incidentally I love My R50e..it is a robust simple unit that does everything I ask of it.

Hi ms5133,

Thanks for the reply. I've had a hunt around online and found a PDF off the IBM site that suggests it is, and shows how to fit the card, and also a few sites that have info on non-IBM mini-pci cards and how to get them working.

I've been using the R50 for about a fortnight now, and i've gotta say, although i was sceptical having used many different Vaios for the last couple of years, but i have got to say that it is possibly the most comfortable laptop i have ever used, from the keyboard to the pointer, like you say it just does exactly what i need no fuss!

Thanks again

Bear
