R40e Upgrading to 2.6/2.8Ghz Celeron

#1 Post by Pookster » Thu Aug 31, 2006 5:12 pm

Hi there,

I was wondering if a processor upgrade would be possible on my thinkpad R40e, I'm happy with the machine and it performs well, however, I tend to convert lots of video footage on it from my cam corder and also from anime fan subs (Unlicnenced of course) in order to use on my Symbian Phone.

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade the CPU from a 2.0 to a 2.6 or even 2.8 I know the FSB of the R40e is 400Mhz but will it accept a faster chip.

Many thanks for your time,

Bump. Apparently R40e's can work with as much as a Pentium M 2.2GHz, though whether or not this is simply a model of the R40e or an actual upgrade option, I'm unsure.

My localised e-bay equivalent seems to be selling random Pentium M's for use in laptops, can I use just any that has a 400MHz FSB?
IBM ThinkPad R40e 2684-5AG:
Celery 1.7GHz, 256MB PC2100, 20GB HD (15 due to factory restore image still intact), CD-RW/DVD combo, no mPCI device (PCMCIA wireless).

p4-m / celeron mobile are compatible with each other

pentium M and celeron M are compatible with each other

don't mix and match the two :)

for the P4-m route you can only use a 2.6GHz CPU. Anything higher has different core voltage and generates a LOT more heat anyway.
