How can I turn off battery power underclocking

Hello,

Like just about all laptops out there, the thinkpad z series automatically underclocks itself when working off battery power. I am not sure whether this is done through the OS or the thinkpad software or something else. I've been looking for an easy way to turn this underclocking off, or at least to have more control over it. I do not wish to overclock it.

Is there a way? Could anyone help me?

power manager. If using the preload, click on the battery icon on your toolbar, select the 'Maximum Performance' profile, that wil kick it in gear and quite quickly wear down your battery.

if only it was that easy - i've already gone throw the power manager plenty of times trying to find a way.

even in the maximum performance the computer still starts radically underclocking.

the video game (which is by the way the reason i need maximum performance) drops from 60 fps to 10 fps no matter what i do in the power manager.

any other ideas?

Very odd. I have a z61, dual core, both cpus are running a DC program (folding@home) keeping both cores fully loaded. When i disconnect the power cord, it stays at 1.66GHz using the Max Perf profile.

if you want it bad enough.. go to power mgr, go to global settings, advanced, you can disable all pwr mgmt on the cpu and pci bus.

unfortunately that did not solve my problem either, everything is still acting just like it was.

perhaps i was wrong to analyze this problem as cpu underclocking, is there some program i could download/run to get better information on what it is that causes my fps to go down so drastically?

perhaps check the powerplay settings of your ati card, may be set for max batt life may be bringing you down too.

you could also do so in BIOS, that would limit what could happen in Windows.

I think disabling the Intel Speedstep is what you need to do. You can turn it off in the bios. Here's a link to Bay Wolf's Speedstep FAQ.
