A30 Trackpoint sensitivity not light enough

#1 Post by slowbiscuit » Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:30 pm

I've got the pointer speed set to fastest and the trackpoint sensitivity set to lighest touch (i.e., both maxed out to the right in the mouse control panel) but my mouse movement is still a little too stiff for my tastes. My wife has an R52 and I can make her trackpoint way more sensitive than mine. My finger starts to hurt after using the mouse for a while on the A30.

My question is, is there a registry hack to enable lighter sensitivity for the trackpoint in the A30? I am running the last driver version 3.55. I found a google newsgroup entry from 2002 discussing this where the author said that IBM support emailed him the following reg entry:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TrackPoint]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TrackPoint\PTS]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TrackPoint\PTS\vers_3e]
"snstvty"="0x80, 0x90, 0xa0, 0xb0, 0xc0, 0xd0, 0xe0, 0xf0, 0xff"

You copy this to a text file called 'tp.reg' and save it, double-click on the file to import the settings into the registry, then reboot. I did this but it had no effect on my A30, it's not any faster than before.

Anyone know where the sensitivity settings are stored? I couldn't find an obvious entry by searching for 'trackpoint' in the registry.

Bump. No one knows how to make the trackpoint move with lighter pressure on the rubber nub? With everything set to fastest/lightest touch, it still wears out my finger.

Do you have access to another thinkpad to make a comparison so we would then know if the TP is at fault, or if your finger is just weaker than most?

I have mine set on the fastest/ most sensitive, etc and once used to it I could definitely go for more sensitive, but it doesn't come close to bothering me. It's like the gas peddle in the car. You get used to it with your right foot, then if you use your left foot you are driving like a 14 year old.

lol you know that's not the case. if the settings are all set to the lightest/easiest and it still doesn't work well, you probably need a new keyboard.
