Ghosting a new Z61p

#1 Post by phrider » Tue Sep 12, 2006 9:53 am

In a week or so, I will be taking delivery of a new Lenovo Thinkpad Z61p. Even before it is booted up into XP for the first time, I would like to make a Ghost drive image of the "fresh machine."

I would prefer to boot up via CD and transfer the image via Ethernet (first choice) or USB-connected hard drive (second choice) using Ghost 2003.

But I also own several copies of the lasted Ghost 10.0, including a "never used" copy waiting for this machine.

What do you recommend for drivers and configuration for the Lenovo Z61p?
Should I give up on Ghost 2003, and just use Ghost 10.0?
Would the USB 2.0 hard drive be much easier than networking?

Thanks in advance.

G4U Cloning Software

#2 Post by danieldavid » Thu Sep 21, 2006 4:43 pm

Hi,

Cloning the hard disk in its "virgin" state is a great idea.

I would recommend looking into the G4U software (please see http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/ ) that alows you to upload a compressed disk image to another PC acting as an FTP server, or cloning to an external USB disk.

This program will boot from a CD and is free for private users.

Has anyone used Ghost 2003 on a Z61p at all?

Does the SATA drive pose any problem when booting from the CD to run Ghost 2003?

It should work fine if you're comfortable with Gost already..

Yah know...you don't have to...

The system allows you to build a recovery CD set...

Just do that first.

Make sure you use high quality CDR media. Then make a copy of the first set so you have a backup of the backup.
