Does anyone make a good aftermarket R32 battery?

#1 Post by lparsons » Mon Sep 25, 2006 4:56 pm

My replacement IBM battery for my R32 is going downhill fast. It holds at best a 15 minute charge. I have tried 3rd party batteries before, and found they did not fit well.
Has anyone found an aftermarket manufacturer that makes a well fitting battery for the R32? I am attempting to get IBM to honor the warranty on my 10month old battery from them, but I have my doubts they will hold up too their end of the deal. And I'm certainly not going to pay $140 for a battery for a 2 year old laptop.

I wish that were true. They seem to be trying very hard this time to not honor the battery warranty. They insist that they have no way to look up the purchase of the battery in their database and that I have to send them a copy of the proof of purchase for the battery in order for them to determine if it is still under warranty.

Since I don't think I have better than a snowball's chance in hell of getting them to honor the warranty, my question remains:
Is there another manufacturer anywhere that makes a good replacement battery for the R32?

I think $140 for a battery for a 3 year old laptop is utterly insane.

If you bought the battery from lenovo directly, call the sales line up and get them to fax/mail you a copy of the invoice. Then fax this to IBM support and they will send you the new battery.

Aha! That was the answer I needed to find! I did just like you suggested - I called lenovo first, and got them to fax me my invoice. Then I called IBM customer (dis)service and re-re-reported the problem, so they gave me a new problem number. I faxed the lenovo invoice to the IBM fax number with the new problem number on it.

(hopefully) problem solved

thanks!
