External wi-fi antenna for R52?

#1 Post by LeoB » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:01 am

I have an R52 with the internal wi-fi. One hotel I regularly stay at for business in Uruguay has wi-fi, but the signal in most of the rooms is fairly weak because of the complex hallways and older system they use. In the rooms I prefer, the position of the desk puts the wi-fi antenna (on the top and right of the screen) away from the hallway where, I presume, the wi-fi signal is coming from as I can see the routers attached to the hallway ceilings.

I searched the forum, and was wondering about some kind of external antenna or higher gain wi-fi PC card to stengthen the signal. Most of the posts about this concerned adding a PCMCIA card to a ThinkPad without internal wi-fi.

Can this be done? Anybody done it? Will it conflict with the internal wi-fi antenna/system? I saw cards from Netgear and Hawking that claimed very high gain.

Thanks for any help.
