Which wireless card for R40?

#1 Post by Terrahawk » Wed Oct 04, 2006 5:23 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a R40 2723-26M, and I'd like to install a wireless Mini-PCI card into it. On Lenovo's web site are two cards - the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 ABG Mini-PCI (p/n 41N2990) and the ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter II (p/n 73P4301). Which one of these cards works on the R40, and can be used with Fn+F5 and the other associated Thinkpad software?
Geoff.

I bought the 73P4301 ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter II card and have since installed it. The sales folks told me it was compatible with my R40 but I got the 1802 error.

After sorting that out with the no-1802 hack, it works fine but there is a small oddity with the R40 when booting up (both cold and warm boots) - it seems to try to restart three times before the IBM logo comes up on the display. Has anyone else had this?

It is strange that the Atheros II card (the one you purchased) does not work w/o the hack. I had a few R40's that worked with the Intel B, Intel B/G, Cisco B and Atheros B/G and A/B/G (version I) cards without the hack.

Are you using the latest BIOS and Embedded Controller versions?

Has anyone else tryed the Atheros II in an R40?

I am using Embedded Controller version 1.14 and BIOS 1.33 (1PET65WW), which are the latest.

I'd also be interested to know that, as well as if anyone has had the experience of the machine seeming to try to restart three times before being successful.

Hi, I haven't tried to figure out why but my R40 also seems like it is trying to boot 3 times before it eventually starts up. It seems to be trying to boot from the CD but so long as it boots.........
