What is the best wireless option for an A21m?? Any takers??

#1 Post by j_mcc99 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 8:04 am

Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions on wireless options for my A21m. My two options are:

-mini-pci wlan card + installation of an internal antennae

or

-pcmcia wireless card.

If anybody can suggest hardware that will work for either of those 2 options it would be very much appreciated.

Also, I was wondering what the difference in range will be between the two. I'm assuming that an internal antennae will be more powerful than a pcmcia solution.... but would like somebody to clarify this for me.

And lastly *deep breath*.. do most mini-pci wlan cards also support lan? (ie: ethernet hookup)?

Thanks!!!

Hi.

I have both a PCMCIA and USB2.0 wireless adapter. BOth work fine but the latter is better. Since my a21m has only one USB1.1 port (with the external mouse often hooked up to it), I use a USB2.0 PCMCIA adapter with the USB wireless. This does result in stuff sticking out, as compared to a wireless mini-pci card, but I need the mini-pci for the ethernet connection.

I'm using a Linksys PCMCIA card in my A20m. Range seems similar to the built-in wireless card in our T60. Performance seems fine. Not sure how much performance you would gain with an internal card vs. PCMCIA or USB as asadniazi described.
